I have Trouble sleeping at night and sometimes don`t sleep till at least 5am what can i do to get a good night`s sleep.
(most times i go to work having been awake all night and when i get home go to sleep as i so tired)
Hi Riley, I know…getting no sleep is the worst and I suffer sometimes from it too (like last night…ugh). Here is what helps me…I try to go to bed at the same time every night, even on the week-ends, so force yourself not to go to sleep after you get home from work. Stay up until it is your normal time to go to sleep. I take a warm shower about a half hour before bed. Make sure your bedroom has no light what-so-ever. Keep your room cool and limit the blankets that you use. Don’t watch TV or read in the bedroom…only use it for making love and sleep. Don’t play video games or computer games or even work on the computer in the evening…this is a stimulus to your brain. Don’t drink alcohol at night. While alcohol can make you sleepy, you will wake up from it after only a few hours. You need to break the habit of sleeplessness. When I get out of schedule, I get back on track by taking either a Tylenol PM or a light sleeping aid , which you can ask your doctor for. Use these aids sparingly, as you don’t want to make them a habit or become dependent on them. Try to clear you mind from anything in particular…mine sometimes is like a wheel of film, playing the same images over and over…try to think of the lull of the ocean or the sky…anything but events and people! Not sleeping can effect your mood and your performance at work, so try to get a handle on it before it is totally out of control. The best of luck to you.
